Stopping from a wedge

1. The easiest way to come to a stop slowly is to turn uphill, which will reduce your speed. When your downhill ski is almost stopped put pressure to the side of the ski until you have come to a stop.

2. When you skis are parallel to the mountain keep this edge pressure with your skis apart about 3-4 inches.

The Hockey Stop

Find some space where you can get some momentum, the lower two turns on Snubber is a good place to practice.

1.  Get some momentum going by skiing parallel. Select the place you want to stop ahead.

2. When you a ready to stop turn both skis quickly to 90 degrees and at the same time keeping your upper body facing downhill. (See picture below).

3. Put pressure on uphill edges of your skis, tilting them into the hillside.

4. Practice the Hockey Stop until you are comfortable stopping at greater speed.

5. Then try it on the big hill, Lower Bear Claw as a Green trail or Lower Picked Rock as a Blue
